The Prisoner
Broadcast in 1967-68, the seventeen part series The Prisoner is possibly the most baffling series ever to be made. It starred Patrick McGoohan who was already a household name due to his portrayal of John Drake in Danger Man. McGoohan also wrote and directed several episodes.
McGoohan plays a secret agent who resigns from his job and is abducted to a beautiful village (played by Portmeirion). Upon arrival he is given the number 6 and finds out that all the other inmates are known only by a number. Each episode sees Number 6 attempt to escape and Number 2, the chief administrator (played by a different guest actor each week) attempt to discover the reason for the Prisoner's resignation.
